Dark Smoky Toki

This is a very interesting coloured piece of Pounamu.  Found in Nelson this is characteristic of the colouring found in this area.  Darker than a lot of greenstone with more greys and blacks in it.

In bone or greenstone, it was traditionally worn by Maori elders, as it represented power, wisdom and authority - www.newzealand.com 




 This piece is pretty hard and came up well when polished





Here is the original slab that I started with.  I have already cut in into smaller pieces here and put them together like a jigsaw for the photo.
